She was a good neighbor and a sympathetic friend. All preachers realize how much this means. Her presence was always an inspiration because it was constant, and her attention and interest unwavering. She was always in her place in the Lords-day school and in the meetings of the church. She realized that God had made man the head and woman the keeper at home man the bread earner and woman the helpmeet and she stayed at home and managed things there, and made it a place of pleasant retreat from the worry and bustle and noise of his business life, and it was eagerly sought by him when his days work was done, and he found happiness there in her perfect trust and love. She had no patience with the modern woman who seeks prominence in the world of public affairs, but believed that womans sphere was in the home. It was a delight for her to have their friends with them, and we have had many pleasant days there. She was a painstaking and orderly housekeeper and their home was a pleasant and hospitable one. Sister Read was a conscientious and zealous Christian. They moved to Dickson, Tenn., some twelve or more years ago, and they have both been zealous, faithful members of the church there since their first Lords day in the place. She was happy in her newly found faith, and her faith in the gospel simplicity grew as she grew older. She had been a member of the Baptist Church before she heard Brother Dunn. Dunn preach and learned the way of the Lord more perfectly, and obeyed the gospel on July 8, 1897. They lived for several years near Petway on a farm, and while living there she heard Brother G. She attended country school district #16 for seven years and graduated from eighth grade at St. John Lutheran Church near Kramer, Nebraska on Apby Pastor Cholcher. LaVerna Adeline Wendelin Kattau was born at home in Lancaster County on Decemto her parents Willie and Emma (Poertner) Wendelin.
